What I’m Up To:

Happy Independence Day to all the US readers. We usually do very low-key holiday weekends. We live in a tourist town, so we just stay home and keep out of everyone’s way. There won’t be any city fireworks up here in Flagstaff due to the dry forests, and that’s ok with me. I’d rather keep my home intact than watch fireworks. But, I do love a good fireworks show, when I know it’s safe.

My husband and I drove from Flagstaff to Denver this week to move my son to his new apartment and job. As you can imagine it was a very emotional week. He’s been living out of the house for the past year, but still close by, so it’s difficult but exciting to see him move so far away.

Here is a photo I took of Monument Valley. It’s through the truck windshield, so it’s not great, but It does show the beautiful scenery we drive through to get to Colorado. It’s also the approximate location that Forrest Gump stopped running in the movie, Forrest Gump.

And here is a photo driving through the Colorado Rockies. The photo does not do the scenery justice, especially through the dirty windshield! I’ve always thought that the scenery on Interstate I-70, west of Denver is some of the most beautiful interstate in our country.

  2. My youngest daughter started university this year and so is living a four hour drive from us but she is home right now for her mid semester break. I’m not looking forward to losing her again when she goes back.
    That scenery is glorious!

Wishing you a great reading week

    • Thanks! It’s so hard when they leave home, but it means they are doing what they are supposed to do…Hope you have a great reading week too!

Ah Daisy Jones! I’ve heard good things about it. I’ve got it on my Kindle. Should really get around to reading it soon!! Have a lovely week!

  4. I bet that it has been a very emotional week. 🤗. I felt lucky that my oldest took a job near campus after graduation, which is only 2 hours away, since her other choice was Washington DC which is like 7 or 8 hours away. It’s such a mixed bag of emotions once they become adults. ❤️ Hope you have a great week!

    • Thank you Tessa. Being a parent never ends does it? I wanted him to stay closer to home, but so happy that his career is starting off well for him. Hope you enjoy your week as well!

  5. I totally get the emotions Wendy. My kids are both back in town now, but when my daughter moved to Baffin Island and my son and his wife to Winnipeg Manitoba, I was a mess. I love that part of the country. My husband and I drove through it twice and it was so beautiful. I am also hoping to read the Helena Hunting book this, but only time will tell if I stick to it.

    • Thank you very much Carla. We never stop being parents do we. Glad your kids are back in town near you now.
