A Texas lawman will do anything to protect a woman and baby.

The woman who broke into ATF special agent Nick Brodie’s home and aimed a gun at him isn’t a stranger. Neither is the baby with her. Seven months ago, the lawman and former ATF agent Hallie Stanton rescued the newborn from a black market ring. Now on the run, they must join forces to escape the abductor hot on their trail. As their taboo attraction heats up, can Nick and Hallie keep the baby safe and stay one step ahead of a merciless killer?

Book 1: Sheriff in the Saddle
Book 2: Maverick Justice
Book 3: Lawman to the Core
Book 4: Spurred to Justice

Lawman to the Core is the third book in the popular series, The Law in Lubbock County, but can be read as a stand-alone.  Really, this series should be read in order, but the author does a splendid job of summing up the previous books and has a nice character list at the beginning of the book that I found very helpful.

Lawman to the Core is a fast-paced romantic suspense where I was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading.  I loved the fast pace and enjoyed the characters immensely.  I loved the way Hallie and Nick cared for little David as they fell in love with each other and the baby.  The mystery as to who was trying to take David and hurt Hallie and Nick was a good one, with a few suspected, it was tough to figure out who was after them.  I received a complimentary copy of this book.  The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Megan Han and Daniel Pak had one night of rhapsody...and now she's pregnant! Jayci Lee composes a sexy opposites-attract romance in her new Hana Trio installment.

Will giving into passion free them from their secret...

Or cost them everything?

Making beautiful music is what chamber violinist Megan Han lives for. But one night with a seductive stranger and a surprise pregnancy could jeopardize her hard work. Especially when that handsome stranger turns out to be Daniel Pak, CFO of her father's company. The only choice for these star-crossed lovers is to keep their fling--and Megan's pregnancy--a secret. But when passion reignites, will they risk one more sweet symphony?

From Harlequin Desire: A luxurious world of bold encounters and sizzling chemistry.

You'll be swept away by this bold, sizzling romance, part of the Hana Trio series:

Book 1: A Song of Secrets
Book 2: One Night Only

One Night Only by Jayci Lee is the second book in her Hans Trio series and can easily be read as a stand-alone book.  This surprise baby story is emotional, heartwarming, and just a bit steamy.

A surprise baby trope can sometimes be tricky, but I liked the way the author handled this one.  After a one-night stand, concert violinist, Meghan Han finds out she’s pregnant.  She immediately knows she’ll keep the baby, but doesn’t know how to contact the father.  Until he shows up at her home as a guest.  Her baby’s father is Daniel Pak, CFO of her father’s company.  In order to save his job, they decide not to tell anyone he’s the father for a while and they also decide to keep their own relationship secret.

Daniel made an adorable hero.  He wanted the baby in his life from the first moment he found out and he made a great father-to-be.  Meghan was also a lovely character.  I loved her determination to keep Daniels’s job safe, even if it meant more difficulty for herself.  Overall, this was a fun, emotional, and satisfying book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book.  The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

About Jayci Lee

Jayci lee

Jayci Lee writes poignant, sexy, and laugh-out-loud romance every free second she can scavenge. She lives in sunny California with her tall-dark-and-handsome husband, two amazing boys with boundless energy, and a fluffy rescue whose cuteness is a major distraction. At times, she cannot accommodate real life because her brain is full of drool worthy heroes and badass heroines clamoring to come to life.

Jaycee LeeBecause of all the books demanding to be written, Jayci writes full-time now, and is semi-retired from her fifteen-year career as a defense litigator. She loves food, wine, and travelling, and incidentally so do her characters. Books have always helped her grow, dream, and heal, and she hopes her books will do the same for you.

  1. Glad you enjoyed both books. I’m not a fan of the surprise baby trope, but sounds like Lee made it work well in One Night Only.

  2. I confess I am not a huge fan of the surprise baby trope, but Jayci Lee’s book does sound good. I like Fossen’s novels and will have to check out Lawman to the Core.

  4. I’m always interested in finding new authors I’d like, and these two seem like good possibilities. Good to know these books work well as standalone. I’m especially intrigued by the Jayci Lee book.

  5. These both sound like wonderful books – One Night Only especially intrigues me with the surprise pregnancy trope! Nice reviews Wendy!

  6. I haven’t read much romantic suspense and I don’t know why, lol. I love both romance and suspense so it seems like a no brainer. I’ll check out this first series to see if it’s something I’d enjoy. Thanks for your reviews!
