What I’ve been up to?

We’re still camping in the Arizona Desert. This week we’ve been at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, in the Twin Peaks campground. You can see from the map that it’s pretty remote and very close to the border with Mexico. It’s a beautiful campground and we loved it there!

We had moderate temperatures, and we were able to hike every day and relax and enjoy the warmer weather. It was even warm enough for short sleeves and shorts!

We’ll be staying here until Wednesday and then we’ll head back home!

Last week I read:

I read 3 and a half books this past week. The half was a DNF. Courtiers by Valentine Low was a bit of a disappointment to me. Nothing wrong with the writing, but I… DID. NOT. CARE. about any of the courtiers and the book could not hold my attention.

Fortunately, The Minuscule Mansion of Myra Malone and Georgie, All the Way were both delightful!! And I also enjoyed The Marriage Season.

  1. It sounds like you had a great camping trip, Wendy. I love those pictures. Too bad that Courtiers was not your cup of tea, you can’t love them all. I hope you had a good trip home.

  2. Too bad about Courtiers but good that you DNF’d it. I’ve forced myself to finish a book I didn’t care about more than I should and it usually results in a reading slump. The camping trip sounds amazing. I love hiking and the weather sounds perfect. Have a wonderful week!

  3. I’ve never heard or organ pipe cactus, but I can see why they’re called that. And what a gorgeous sunset! Glad you’re having such a wonderful time, Wendy.

  4. Sunsets in the desert are so vibrant. And the landscape is so fascinating to me. I’ve never been to that area. Hope the rest of your trip is amazing!

  5. HDGAIDHJSHDHDJE HEARING ABOUT THE HIKING TRIP IS ALWAYS SO MUCH FUN AND IM ABSOLUTELY LIVING FOR ALL THE PHOTOS?? I love them so much 😭 am so glad it’s been so much fun!! Also omg 3 books IS GREAT HOW DO YOU READ SO MUCH??

  6. I can see why they call them Organ Pipe Cactus! The desert has it’s own special beauty and this is the perfect time to visit. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your time there. I have The Miniscule Mansion too so I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it. Look forward to your thoughts.

  7. I’m green with envy over your shirt sleeve hiking. In OK I am happy with walking the dogs in 45-50 degree weather which isn’t bad if the sun is shining and there is no wind, but we go regardless. I can tell time by my dogs. They get restless when they decide it’s time for a walk. If I were at my cabin in the mountains of NM, I would be wading through snow, so I am content with the weather I have. Enjoy your hikes.

  8. I’m so jealous Wendy! Your photos look amazing and glad to hear you’re having such beautiful weather. The hugging cacti look cute! I’m glad you loved Georgie because I’m starting it tomorrow. Have a wonder week ahead!

  9. Those photos are so beautiful, Wendy. Enjoy your last several days of camping! Georgie, All Along sounds so good. I am glad you liked it. Have a great week, Wendy and safe travels home.

  10. I’m glad you’re having a great trip, it looks wonderful! Nice pics, especially the Hugging Saguaro and the sunset looks awesome. You’re doing great with your reading. Enjoy the rest of your traveling!

  11. We lived in Vegas to so traveled to AZ many times and I grew to love the desert even though I’m from the NW and used to greenery & trees, etc. Definitely a different landscape. I’ve had Minuscule Mansion on my TBR for quite a while, glad to see you liked it. I keep meaning to start the Finlay Donovan series….maybe this year???? Hope you really enjoy your last few days.

  12. Love the pictures this week, especially the gorgeous sunset. I could do with some warmth this week, we’ve had mostly grey days and temp lows at 2oC (36F) early in the morning.
Glad most of your reads were enjoyable this week. Myra Malone looks like fun, and I really must look up Finlay Donovan soon.

  13. Your camping trip pictures and stories have made me start looking more at guys on dating apps with camper pictures in their bios, lol. At my age I think I’d be interested in finding someone who wants to go camping all the time. But only in a camper, no tents for me! I need my A/C. We have to do DNFs more these days as we find more and more to read, so it’s okay I think! Hope you have a great week!

    • I love camping and being in the outdoors. I hope you find a guy with a camper! I’m not a tent camper anymore either. The last time I camped in a tent, we saw a bear just as we were leaving, and I said never again!

  14. Janette

Lovely pictures Wendy and I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday. Being able to walk around in shirt and shorts sounds blissful. I enjoyed The Marriage Season too and hopefully will get round to reading Maame this week so we’ll have to compare notes.

  15. Enjoy the rest of your time in the desert Wendy. I didn’t realize how close you were to the boarder! Wow!! Have a lovely week and stay safe!📚🤗☕💜

  16. Camping in the Arizone desert close to Mexico! How exciting. Did you meet any migrants on the way north?
I’m curious about Georgie All Along as I’ve seen it on other blogs. Hope it’s a good one.

    • I have not seen any migrants, but have seen a LOT of border patrol. Also a lot of Canadians stopping in the campground on their way to Mexico. Georgie All Along was great, I loved it.
