Home Sweet Home!

My backyard view last night.

We made it home! I loved the trip and can’t wait to go on another long trip, but, it’s also nice to be back home. The dogs were thrilled to see us, and our kids seemed happy to have us back home.

Trip Statistics:
40 Days
19 Campgrounds
2 Countries
7 States (Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Nevada)
2 Canadian Provinces (Alberta, British Columbia)
4,242 total miles

Vineyards in British Columbia
Mountains in British Columbia

Flooding! While we were gone our hometown of Flagstaff has been plagued by floods. It rained here almost every day were gone, and the flooding has been terrible. Thankfully our property was not affected by floods, but I was surprised to see so many of our neighbors with sandbags around their homes. And more rain is still in the forecast.

Good News! I have a new Grandniece! She was born the day before my sister’s birthday last week. So my sister got a new granddaughter for her birthday. She’s adorable and now I need to plan a trip to California soon so I can meet her in person.

Last week I read:

I had a great week of reading. Although we were traveling, we took it slow, so I had lots of time to read.

I don’t have a favorite this week, but Bookish People wasn’t as good as I expected. I liked the ending, but it was slow in parts and confusing in other parts, and not as enjoyable as the other four books.

Next week I hope to get to:

  1. Congrats on the new baby in the family!

That 40 day roadtrip was amazing!

One of my childhood BFFs lives in Flag. I had better check on her. Gorgeous sunset photo! I have lived in Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, and Phoenix and Arizona always did have THE BEST sunsets.

  2. those pictures are beautiful. It’s great your property is safe and wasn’t damaged in flood. Congratulations!❤️

  3. The sunset from your back yard looks like something out of a magazine! Wow!! Glad the trip went so well. I’d love to hit the road for 40 days. 🙂 I loved Addicted to You and the whole series. I think I first read it about 7-8 years ago and I was hooked. I’ve reread the whole series at least once. Hope you enjoy it.

  4. That sounds like an awesome trip – I’d love to go to Washington and Oregon some day. The furthest west I’ve been of the places you went was Montana – and that was the eastern corner. 🙂

  5. The view from your backyard rivals many of your vacation photos. It beautiful! The British Columbia pictures are gorgeous. 🏞

Congratulations on your grandneice! I hope you get to see her in person soon. 👶

    I hope you’ve been having a wonderful week. 🌞

  6. I’m glad you’re home again. What a fantastic trip this sounds like!

    Congratulations on your new grandniece.

  7. I’m glad you and hubby had a good time on your journey! I’m sure you are so happy to be home. Hopefully, the rain lets up soon. I’m struggling with Bookish People; it is not what I expected. I’m about 35% of the way in and am so tempted to DNF it.

  8. Congrats on the new grandniece! Wow, you were on vacation for a long time! How lovely and you visited some beautiful places!

    • Thank you, Rachel. When I retired I planned a long 4-month vacation to reward myself for all those years of work, and one month after I retired, COVID hit. So, this was my retirement gift to me.

  9. What a wonderful trip you had, Wendy! So glad the flooding didn’t affect your home. And congrats on the new addition to the family!

  10. I’m glad you are back home safely. I always like going on a trip and getting back home. You certainly covered a lot of miles. I hope your house remains outside the flooding. Rain is good, but not too much too fast!

  11. That sky is stunning and what a trip! You all really got to see a lot. Welcome home! I hope you have a great week and congratulations on the new grandniece ❤️

  12. Welcome home! For some reason I thought your dogs went with you. It must be so good to see them and your kids again! I’m glad you had a great time on your vacation. It sounds like so much fun! 😀

That picture of the sunset is gorgeous! We had a lovely one about a week or so ago and the colors were more vibrant than I’ve ever seen in a sunset. Even a motorcyclist had stopped on the side of the road just so he could admire the sunset. I wish I would’ve taken a picture but I wasn’t in a good place for it and I’m sure the beauty would’ve been lost in the camera.

Anyway, I hope you have a great week! 😀

    • Thank you, Jenni. The dogs are really my son’s dogs and they are large dogs, so they wouldn’t have enjoyed living in a small trailer and being in a truck for long periods of time. We have a large 2-acre yard at home where they are happy and able to run around. Plus my son, daughter and son’s girlfriend all give them lots of love and support while we’re gone.

  13. It’s always nice to be home, no matter how great a trip is! 🙂 Looks like quite thr trip too. Did you have a particular favorite stop?

    And congratulations! that’s awesome news!!

  14. Welcome home Wendy! It’s fun to travel but there really is no place like home! Wildfire concerns before you left and now flooding – so stressful. Congratulations on the new addition to your family.

  15. I love going on trips, but the best part is coming home!! Lovely photo of your backyard and the sunset. Luck and Last Resorts reminds me of those typical 1980’s love stories (Mills & Boon) love story. I’d probably read it just for that!

Have a good week Wendy and I hope you will enjoy all your books.

    • Love and Last Resorts was much better than I expected. A lot of angst! Have a great week and I hope you enjoy all your books too.

  16. Wow, that is your back yard view? So much better than mine! You had some good books this past week. I’ve got the Lucy Checks In book coming up in a week too! Hope you have a great week and are happy to be home after such a wonderful trip!

  17. What a wonderful week you had Wendy. Glad to know the flooding didn’t effect you. Have a lovely week and good luck with the rain 🤗📚☔🌻💗

  18. That sounds a wonderful trip. Glad you’re back home to a beautiful sunset like that and many congratulations on your new grand niece! Wish you a great week of reading ahead Wendy.

  19. Wow, what a stunning sunset! That really does sound like such a wonderful break! I arrived in France late Friday night, and I start work at a sailing club tomorrow! Congratulations on the great niece! I hope your home stays safe. Have a lovely week Wendy!

  20. Your view from your house is gorgeous!! Sorry Bookish People was not as good as you were expecting! Such a disappointment. I am going to be reading Beach Read by her this week for book club. Glad your house was not affected by the floods and hope that it continues to stay that way. Have a great day!

  21. Congratulations! Great nieces are so very special. My youngest great niece just turned 7. Beautiful pics Wendy, I’m glad you’re home is safe x
