What I’ve been up to:

Our Turkey hatched 4 chickens! It was a total surprise to us because we didn’t even realize the turkey was sitting on a nest of eggs. And she hatched baby chickens, not turkey chicks. They are super cute, and she’s being a great mother so far.

I got a LOT of reading and listening completed this week. I have my sister and brother-in-law coming to visit for a few days, and then right after they leave, we start our trip up to Canada, so I wanted to get ahead as much as possible, as my reading will slow considerably while on vacation.

Last week I read:

I made reading a priority this week to get ahead as I’ll be busy for the next several weeks. These were all good. Magic Lessons and Practical Magic topped the list for this week.

Next week I hope to get to:

What I watched:

Since I recently finished listening to Magic Lessons and Practical Magic, I thought I would watch the movie too! I’ve seen it before, but it’s been quite a while. It was a lot of fun, and while it didn’t follow the book exactly, I sure did enjoy it.

    • I really enjoyed the book and I love the movie too. It was nice to get a bit more background information in the book.

  1. Is the fire disrupting your sister’s visit? 😕

I like the Practical Magic movie better than the book. 🙃 I watch it every Halloween Eve. 🤗 Are you going to read the other two books? They were my favorites. 😍

Here’s where I usually say have a wonderful week, but with the fire I will say have a SAFE week. 🌦

    • Yes, my sister didn’t come out, which was good as we evacuated. I’ll see her again soon. It was a crazy week, but we’re all safe. Yes, I plan to listen to the other books in the series soon!

  2. How adorable the little chicks look. Glad you had so many good reads. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on Dog Friendly. Have a great week ahead Wendy!

  3. Ahhhh, cute chickies. Neat that the turkey played surrogate egg setter. I just read Practical Magic last fall and loved it. I need to see the movie. Have a safe trip up to Canada.

    • Thank you, Sophia! The movie was pretty close to the book, but I did enjoy the book more as it has some backstory that explains a lot. I love your term “surrogate egg setter” 🙂

  4. I love that your turkey hatched chickens. That’s unexpected. I wonder what prompted it to sit on the eggs. Sounds like you have some wonderful things coming up. Enjoy!

    • Thank you, Tessa. That turkey loves to sit on eggs, she has a strong maternal instinct. The chickens just lay the eggs and then go about their business pecking around the yard. They are a funny bunch.

  5. Cute pic of the chicks! I’m with AJ- I had to think about that a minute haha!

Hope your upcoming vacation is great- Canada sounds nice!

    • We have chickens and turkeys and they share the same nesting place. Those chickens are too busy running around to sit on a nest for 21 days! They don’t have any patience at all!

  6. I was very confused by the turkey hatching chickens, LOL. I had a pretty good reading week as well and will be heading out on vacation on Friday, so my reading will probably be slow as well. Enjoy the reset of your weekend.

    • Thank you, Cindy. I should have explained it better. We have several chickens, one rooster, and a female turkey, and one male turkey. The chickens and the turkey all lay eggs in the same place in the coop, so the turkey just started sitting on them one day, and 22 days later we have chicks!

  7. Um, I have so many questions, lol. Where did the turkey get the chicken eggs? How were they fertilized? Do you actually have chickens and roosters? Did the turkey steal the eggs from your chickens? I’m so confused, lol.

    • Yes, we have roosters and chickens and they all lay eggs in the coop that they all share. So the turkey just found a pile of eggs and started to sit on them. 22 days later, we have chicks!

  8. Well now you will have chickens! Yay for Canada since it will likely be cooler and they are reasonable people. I’ve been wanting to read those Alice Hoffman books and didn’t know there was a movie. Enjoy your family time and you vacay.

  9. Haha, I had to read this sentence twice “Our Turkey hatched 4 chickens!” I was like, “How does a turkey have chickens?” I guess she adopted somebody else’s eggs. I’m glad she’s being a good mother. The babies are very cute. Have a great week!

    • Thank you, AJ. We have turkeys and chickens in our coup, so the eggs all get laid in the same places. It’s weird.

    • The Book of Magic was a bit dark at times, but very compelling. Practical Magic was a lot lighter, and more like the movie.

  10. Those baby chicks are adorable. What a funny surprise. I wonder if they’ll grow up to have any turkey mannerisms? Do you know where your turkey found those eggs in the first place?

May you have a nice visit with your sister and brother-in-law and a fun vacation, too.

    • Thank you, Lydia! We have turkeys and chickens that live in the same coop, so the Turkey will just start sitting on a bunch of eggs. I don’t know if she knows they are chickens or not?

  11. That is so funny about your turkey hatching the chicks! You read a lot of great books this week! I’m sure you’re looking forward to spending time with family and then going on vacation. Have a wonderful week ahead Wendy!

  12. Janette

Those chicks are gorgeous. It certainly sounds as though you’re going to be busy over the next couple of weeks. Hope that you manage to squeeze some reading in.

  13. Wow! What an awesome week of reading! I bet you can’t wait to start your journey to Canada. Have an awesome week Wendy and a wonderful vacation!💜

  14. I love the movie Practical Magic but don’t think I knew that it was based on the book. I’m going to have to get a copy of that!

    Have a wonderful vacation

  15. The baby chicks are so cute! I didn’t realize there was another Danielle Steel available on Netgalley. I just requested.
