What I’ve been up to:

I sure had a crazy week! We were ordered to evacuate our home due to a wildfire. You can see my photos HERE on my wildfire evacuation post. We were only gone for 24 hours, but it seemed a lot longer. We went to a campground on the other side of town so we could stay with our dogs and not have to take them to the Humane Society shelter.

I was much more worried about the logistics of the evacuation than the thought of losing our home. We could see the fire from our house and knew the winds were pushing it away from us. I’m sure we were only ordered to evacuate out of an abundance of caution.

My Sister and brother-in-law wisely chose to stay home and not come out for a visit.

Here are a few photos of the firefighters I got from the Forest Service page.

These photos just remind me of how hard these guys work. (someone should write a book about them!)

In other news, we are leaving for our vacation this morning. We’re headed to Banff and Jasper National Parks in Alberta Canada. We’re spending a total of 43 days away. I’ve been planning this trip for months and I’m pretty excited about it.

My daughter turned 24 yesterday!

Happy Fathers Day!!

  1. I’m glad your evacuation went relatively smoothly and was short lived. I would have been more worried about the logistics too I think. I can’t imagine how hard the fire fighters must work in these situations. Enjoy your vacation! It sounds wonderful and I bet you’ll have some amazing photos. Have a great week!

  2. Wow thanks for sharing your photos! That is a crazy disruption but I’m glad you were ok. And now you are off on a trip. I love that area. My daughter and I did a similar trip in 2011.

  3. Firefighters are incredibly brave–especially those who fight wildfires that can change direction so quickly.

    Have a great vacation!

  4. I’m so glad that you were safe from the fire and that you got to keep your dogs close while you evacuated. I wouldn’t want to leave my cats anywhere either if I were in that situation. Happy birthday to your daughter and I hope you have a great vacation! My husband and I have been talking about visiting Banff at some point in the near future. I look forward to your pictures.

  5. Have a great time! So glad to hear that the fire didn’t affect you (other than the evacuation of course!). Scary times. And happy birthday to your daughter!

Hope you have a wonderful trip!

  6. Oh noo so the fire then spread then. The logistics would stress me out too, but your Canada vacation is something good to look forward to!

Happy belated birthday to your daughter!

  7. What brave firefighters and rescue workers. Thank goodness for them.

May you have a wonderful vacation! Happy belated birthday to your daughter.

  8. Glad you weren’t evacuated for long. I had no idea where people went when they were told to leave. We are lucky here in the South East of England that we don’t have fires. We can get flooding, but my house has so far survived!

    • They always have a shelter for people to go to at a local school. The Humane Society will take pets and livestock. I think if we didn’t have an RV, we’d just go to a hotel.

    • Thank you, Cindy. we can go away for so long because we’re retired, and have adult children to take care of the house.
