In April Asher’s next Supernatural Singles novel, Not Your Ex's Hexes, a one-night-stand between a willful witch and a broody half-demon conjures an adventure that wouldn’t be complete without several magical mishaps.

For her entire life, Rose Maxwell trained to become the next Prima on the Supernatural Council. Now that she’s stepped down, it’s time for this witch to focus on herself. And not think about her impulsive one-night stand with Damian Adams, a half-Demon Veterinarian who she can’t get out of her head. Neither of them is looking for a relationship. But when Rose is sentenced to community service at Damian’s animal sanctuary it becomes impossible for them to ignore their sparking attraction. A friends-with-benefits, no feelings, no strings arrangement works perfectly for them both.

After a sequence of dead-end jobs, it’s not until Rose tangos with two snarly demons that she thinks she’s finally found her path. However, this puts Damian back on the periphery of a world he thought he left behind. He doesn’t approve of Rose becoming a Hunter, but if there's one thing he's learned about the stubborn witch, it was telling her not to do something was one sure-fire way to make sure she did.

Working—and sleeping—together awakens feelings Damian never knew he had...and shouldn't have. Because thanks to his ex's hex, if he falls in love, he'll not only lose his heart—but his humanity.

Not Your Ex’s Hexes by April Asher is the second book in her popular Supernatural Singles series.  But, can be read as a stand-alone.  I enjoyed the first book in the series and like this one even more.

Story Recap:

For her entire life, Rose Maxwell was groomed to be the Prima on the Supernatural Council.  But, when her sister, Violet discovers that she has magic, Rose steps down to let Violet take her rightful position.  Now, Rose must figure out what to do with her life.

When Rose and her sisters try to rescue some horses from an Animal Sanctuary, they are caught and Rose is sentenced to do community service at the sanctuary.  She believed the horses were not being cared for properly, when in fact they had been rescued from a farm where they had been treated abominably.  The only problem is the owner of the sanctuary is Damian Adams, a half-Demon Veterinarian, someone Rose had a one-night stand with, and she’d prefer to never see again.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed the first book in the series, Not the Witch You Wed, very much and I enjoyed Not Your Ex’s Hexs even more.  I wondered about Rose and what she would do after reading the first book in the series, so I was excited to read her story in this book.

The highlight of this book is the Animal Sanctuary that Damien runs.  Anyone who cares for abused animals is a hero in my book.  Damien has issues of his own, and he’s a wonderful character.  I just love that soft spot he has for animals.

It was also fun to visit the triplets, Rose, Violet, and Olivia again and the magical world they live in.

Not Your Ex’s Hexes was a delightful romp into a magical world with a bit of steam and romance.

Recommendation:

I highly recommend Not My Ex’s Hexes to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance.  I received a complimentary copy of this book.  The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

About April Asher

April Asher, aka April Hunt, was hooked on romantic stories from the time she first snuck a bodice-ripper romance out from her mom's bedside table. She now lives out her own happily-ever-after with her college-sweetheart husband, their two children, and a cat who thinks she's more dog—and human—than feline. By day, April dons dark blue nursing scrubs and drinks way too much caffeine. By night, she still consumes too much caffeine, but she does it with a laptop in hand, and from her favorite side of the couch.

From the far left cushion, April Asher pens laugh-out-loud romantic comedies with a paranormal twist, but when she’s not putting her characters into embarrassing situations with supernatural entities, she also writes high-octane romantic suspense as April Hunt, her thrill-seeking alter ego.

  1. I don’t read a lot of stories with a paranormal or supernatural storyline, but these sound so cute. Great review, Wendy.

  2. Lovely review, Wendy. A book with animals and in fact an animal sanctuary where they’re being cared for sounds just my kind of read.

  3. I thought this book was so fun. I love that it references Buffy and that it reminded me of my favorite show in many regards. And Rose – just the type of main that’s my favorite. Such a spit fire. Excellent review!

  4. Every October, I try to cram as many witchy books as possible into the month in honor of Halloween. Last year, I read a significant number of cute romances but at the time, was bummed that Not the Witch You Wed was unavailable from my libraries. However, I checked again just now and it’s available! So, my plan for October is definitely to read that one and if I love it, I’ll be moving right along to Not Your Ex’s Hexes hehe. It sounds like such a fun series!
