A reality star and a cupcake-baking football player pretend to be a couple in order to save his bakery in this sweet and sexy romance from Jamie Wesley, Fake It Till You Bake It.

Jada Townsend-Matthews is the most reviled woman in America after turning down a proposal on a reality dating show. When she comes home to lick her wounds, Jada finds herself working at San Diego's newest cupcake bakery, Sugar Blitz, alongside the uptight owner and professional football player Donovan Dell.

When a reporter mistakenly believes Jada and Donovan are an item, they realize they can use the misunderstanding to their advantage to help the struggling bakery and rehabilitate Jada's image. Faking a relationship should be simple, but sometimes love is the most unexpected ingredient.

Fake it Till You Bake It is a sweet confection of a novel, the perfect story to curl up with and enjoy with a cupcake on the side.

Fake It Till You Bake It by Jamie Wesley is a light, romantic comedy that features a cupcake baking football player and a tough-talking woman.  I enjoyed this fun book very much.

Jada Townsend-Matthews is back home after rejecting Dr. John on a nationally televised dating show.  She’s the pariah of social media after the rejection, and it’s time she decided what to do with her life.  Her grandmother gets her a job at the cupcake shop, Sugar Blitz, run by NFL football player, Donovan Dell.

After a reporter reports that Jada and Donovan are dating, they decide to go ahead and fake date in order to help promote the shop and to boost Jada’s popularity.  Will all that time spent together at work, and at night change their feelings for each other?

Fake It Till You Bake is a cute enemies-to-lovers story that included a fun fake dating trope. I enjoyed Jada and Donovan and was rooting for them to get together, as they really complimented each other and had wonderful chemistry together.  My favorite character is Grams, she’s one strong woman and she gave the best advice.  I also enjoyed Donovan who loves to bake cupcakes, he’s smart enough to know the career of an NFL football play is not long, and he’s looking to find a way to do something he loves and support himself once his career is over.

I recommend Fake it Till You Bake it to anyone who enjoys romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book.  The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

About Jamie Wesley

Jamie Wesley has been reading romance novels since she was about 12 when her mother left a romance novel, which a friend had given her, on the nightstand. Jamie read it instead, and the rest is history.

She started her first manuscript, a contemporary romance, after she graduated from Northwestern University in 2002 and couldn't find a job. Life got in the way as it often does, i.e. she found a job, and she didn't finish the story. However, she never forgot about it and finally got serious about completing it in 2009. And then she finished a few more stories. In 2012, her manuscript, TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD, was named a finalist in RWA’s Golden Heart competition and was published by Entangled Publishing in 2014.

Jamie holds a master’s degree in sport management (yes, that's a real thing 🙂 ) from the University of Texas at Austin, so it probably comes as no surprise that she loves sports and spends an inordinate amount of time rooting for her hometown Dallas’s pro sports teams and her alma maters.

She also adores Walt Disney World, shopping, and pop culture. Want to know if your favorite TV show is going to be canceled or what the newest Disney attraction is? Ask Jamie. She'll probably know the answer.

  1. Great review Wendy. This one sounds like a lot of fun. I love when there are grandparents in the background supporting, giving advice and pushing their grandkids in the right direction.

  2. This sounds like such a fun read.

I’ve been trying to stick to a sugar-free diet for health reasons, so books that feature bakeries or sweets of any sort are even more appealing at the moment. If you shouldn’t eat them, why not read about them instead? Haha.

Was this the first book you read from this author?

  3. This sounds so fun! I love cupcakes and fake dating and this concept just sounds so fun. Definitely sounds like a perfect summer read!
