Back to Normal
I had a very nice quiet week. It’s nice when I go away and come home, as I always appreciate it more.
The week was filled with chores. We’ve had a huge amount of rain in the past few weeks in Flagstaff, which means the grass (weeds) in my yard are out of control! I did some mowing, but it takes a few days to mow our yard as it’s so large, and I only like to mow in the mornings when it’s cooler. I enjoy mowing, as I can listen to audiobooks and we have a riding mower which is kind of fun.
I also made a huge batch of homemade dog food. The poor dogs had to eat store-bought dog food for a few weeks while we were gone, and I think they appreciate the homemade stuff a bit more, but who really knows? They scarf down whatever is put in front of them like they are starving either way! At least I know the stuff I make is good for them and doesn’t have a bunch of additives and chemicals in them.
Last week I read:
I had a wonderful week of reading both in quantity and quality! I enjoyed all these books very much. Sophie Go’s Lonely Hearts Club and Lucy Checks In were both very heartwarming and enjoyable and had found family and friendships. Addicted to You was angsty and very intense, but so very good.
This week included two of my most anticipated books of the year, Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood and Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid and BOTH books were amazing and lived up to my expectations and more!
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah was amazing. It’s long, but I loved every minute of it.
Next week I hope to get to:

All good books. What a great reading week! 📚
I used to cook for my dogs, too. I do think they appreciate it. 😊
I hope you are having a wonderful week. 🌞
Looks like you had such an amazing reading week! Many books on there I’d like to read as well.
Take care and have a great week ahead, Wendy!
I think it would be a lot of fun to use a riding lawn mower. My father-in-law has one. Maybe I’ll volunteer to cut his grass sometime. 😀 I’m glad things are getting back to normal after your vacation.
When I was little, mowing the grass used to be my chore, but then my allergies and asthma out an end to that .
I can’t wait to read Love on the Brain!
I can’t wait to read Love On The Brain! And I’m glad you loved The Great Alone as well… Have a wonderful week and happy reading! xx
Thank you, Yvonne. I hope you enjoy Love on the Brain as much as I did.
As much as I love Kristen Hannah, I have put off The Great Alone for at least two years now. I just haven’t been ready to tackle what I am sure is a heavier story. Glad you enjoyed Addicted to You. The whole series (Addicted/Calloway Sisters) is one of my favorite contemporary series. I have yet to start the spin-off series, though (the Like Us series). I’m very excited to get Carrie Soto later this month!
I am so glad that both Love on the Brain and Carrie Soto lived up to your expectations! I am looking forward to both of them this month. Have a great week!
It’s always nice to return home after time away, but the chores are always waiting. Have a great week, Wendy!
Haven’t read any of those books you mentioned, but have driven through Flagstaff numerous times – just along the interstate, but always love the fresh pine tree smell as we travel through. Enjoy the end of summer there.
I’m impressed that you can listen to audiobooks while mowing your yard. My mower was always so loud, it would never be an option. Even full blast, I wouldn’t be able to hear anything.
There is nothing quite like getting home after being away! I’ve thought about switching to homemade dog food. We’ve realized my dog has an allergy to chicken and while we’ve found a few other foods that work I like the idea of being sure he’s getting good nutrients. Have a wonderful week and enjoy your reading!
You had a great week of reading in spite of needing to catch up at home. There are some things that just have to be done in the mornings during the summer.
Thank you, LInda!
We’ve had lots of rain here as well! I’m glad you had lots of enjoyable reads, especially those two you were anticipating!
Thank you, Jolene! I’m glad you got some rain as well
I’m looking forward to Lucy Checks-In. So glad you enjoyed it! Returning home after being away always make me happy too. There truly is no place like home.
Lucy Checks In was better than I expected, I hope you enjoy it too.
That’s absolutely wonderful to hear ❤️
Wow, you must have a big yard! When I was a teen and mowed my parents’ yard, I preferred doing it in the coolness and quietness of the morning, too. There’s nothing like the smell of freshly-cut grass on a cool summer morning before the sun gains its strength.
We have 2.5 acres, so it’s pretty large. But, we don’t mow it very often, it only needs mowing about 3 -4 times a year, so that’s good.
I have a lot of catching up to do with the Virgin River series! Season 4 already and I’ve only seen the first. There’s just too much to watch out there!
There is so many shows out there! I have a lot that I just haven’t had time to get to. But, I always make time for Virgin River.
I must be the only person on the planet who doesn’t connect with Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books. I’ve stopped requesting them. I’m glad you enjoy them, though. Let it Snow by Beth Moran looks so cute!
She’s not for everyone, that’s for sure. I’m reading Let it Snow now, and so far it’s pretty good!
It’s always great when you have a great reading week with quality books. I do love getting home from holiday for awhile anyway. I am so behind reading blogs, I will have to check out your reviews, Wendy. Have a wonderful week.
Thank you, Carla. You’ve been so busy!
It is always so nice to come home after being on vacation! You did have a great reading week! I really enjoy audiobooks too, they make the chores so much more enjoyable! Have a great week!
I agree. I love audiobooks.
Hi there Wendy! Sounds as if you were a bit busy this week back at home. It’s always like that after a break away.
You make your own dog food?? For real??? Gosh, can the two labbies and little Anna come and visit you??
Glad to hear you enjoyed your reading week, I always love to see what books you recommend. I’ve noticed that I tend to love them too!
Have a good week Wendy and happy reading.
Elza Reads
Thank you, Mareli! I like making the dog food, I make enough for a couple of months so I don’ t have to do it very often. We already have 3 large dogs, but I know they would enjoy some company!
I always loved our riding mower growing up. I could just sort of veg out while cutting the lawn lol. Now I just have a push mower (I need the exercise) ha ha! Anyway hope your reads are good. I need to read more Taylor Jenkins- Reid
I love the riding mower! I was glad when my husband agreed it should be my chore now as mowing makes his allergies really act up.
We have a large space to mow as well. My husband does it, though. I work on other parts of the yard while listening to audios. I like it. We’re buying a tractor soon as we’re in the process of buying another parcel adjacent to us and then the mowing will be insane if we don’t. I agree, while vacations are nice it feels good to come home.
So happy to hear Addicted to Love was good. I’ll be listening soon. I’m looking forward to Love on the Brain, so I’m happy to hear you loved it!
My husband has bad allergies, so I do the mowing. He does a lot of the trimming and keeps the mower maintained. Addicted to Love was INTENSE, I hope you like it.
You have a riding mower? What fun!
I can’t wait to read “Carrie Soto is Back” by TJR! I’m on a waitlist at the library. In the meantime, I’m avoiding reviews and spoilers…
The riding mower is a lot of fun. With 2.5 acres to mow, it’s a whole lot of help. Carrie Soto is Back is very good. I hope you enjoy it and stay away from the spoilers! (although there really isn’t much to spoil)
While it’s fun to travel, it’s also great to be home. You had a productive week. I’m debating making another batch of food for Lulu today. I make a batch at least once a week and a batch makes 7-8 days. I vary the protein and the green veggie but otherwise the base of rice and 4 veg mix and vitamins are the same. I freeze all but 2 and then take them out a day ahead of when I need them, always have a couple in the fridge. I take them with me when we travel in a cooler. I need to mow again and I just mowed last weekend. There hasn’t been any rain so why is the grass growing so well? I’m so glad to hear those books were great!
Thank you Anne. I make enough for 2 months at a time. It’s a lot of work as our dogs are large and eat a lot, and we also supplement with high quality commercial dog food.
I’ll be reading Lucy Checks In this week too! I can’t wait for Love on the Brain. I wanted to read the Beth Moran book, but just didn’t have time right now to fit it in. Will do later! Hope you have a good week! Oh, how often do you have to make the homemade food for your dogs? I could see doing that for mine if I did it once a week, but I don’t cook for myself, so can’t see doing it more than that. lol
I make the dog food about every other month. Then I freeze big batches. We have 3 large dogs, so they eat a lot of food! It’s a lot of work to make it, but they love it.
I think I’m the last person on Earth to have not read The Great Alone Wendy. What an awesome week you had. Enjoy your day and have a wonderful week.🤗📚💕
I’m second to the last then! It was a great book, and I’m especially fascinated with Alaska, so it really worked for me.
Although Great Alone is awfully grim, I was totally engaged in it and really liked it as well. I’m waiting on the new TJR book too. Have a great reading week.
I loved The Great Alone, and you’re right, it’s grim, but wow, the story is just so good. I liked it a bit more than The Four Winds.
I’m glad you loved Carrie Soto Wendy! I realize the book may not be for everyone (especially if you’re completely disinterested in tennis) but I loved the character development. There are so many great Christmas books coming! I have saturated my ebook reading list until December so will be waiting for the library to bring them in to listen to in audio format. Have a great week!
I’m not much into tennis, but Carrie Soto made me like tennis! It’s such a great book. Have a great week, Jodie!
I loved The Great Alone and Julia Whelan’s narration is superb.
Just started watching season 4 of Virgin River too.
I’ve enjoyed Taylor Jenkins Reid’s book so I must check out this one. Have a great week coming up.
Julia Whelan is such a great narrator. I’m not much of a tennis fan, but I just loved Carrie Soto is Back. I hope you do too.
Carrie Soto was great!
It sure was! Better than I expected… and I expected a lot!
I’m so glad Love on the Brain lived up to your expectations because it’s one of my most anticipated reads!
It was so good! Better than The Love Hypothesis IMO. I hope you enjoy it!
What a great reading week & great books coming up too 💕
Thank you, Jenny! I’m excited about all the great books coming up.
