Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want. Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.

Today’s Top 10: Books That Gave Me Food Cravings

Today’s Top Ten topic this week is a freebie, so I decided to do Top Ten Books That Gave Me Food Cravings. I can’t wait to see what all the other bloggers come up with for their freebie.

1. Up To No Gouda by Linda Reilly. The main character Carly Hale runs her own grilled cheese eatery. I don’t know how many grilled cheese sandwiches I made while reading and reviewing this book, but it was a lot!

2. The Bluebonnet Battle by Carolyn Brown. The main character, Liddy Latham is known for her Lemon Pies. I made 2 lemon meringue pies while reading and reviewing this book… And they were good!

3. Sweet as Pie by Alice Hunter Pace. Evans Pemberton started her own pie shop and mostly serves chicken pot pie. I didn’t make a chicken pot pie, but I bought a few and enjoyed them very much.

4. The Buy-In by Emma St. Clair. This book takes place in Sheet Cake, Texas. I kept thinking of a big yellow sheet cake with chocolate icing! Yum.

5. The Sweetheart Deal by Miranda Liasson. Tessa Montgomery works in her mother’s bakery making bread, but she dreams of opening her own french patisserie. I love french pastries, and went to a local bakery for some yummy pastries.

6. The Maid by Nita Prose. Molly Gray loves to eat at The Olive Garden, and while I’m not a huge fan of The Olive Garden, I haven’t eaten in one in over 2 years, so now I want to go to The Olive Garden for some salad, breadsticks and pasta!

7. The Lighthouse on Moonlight Bay by Lori Wilde. The premise of this book involved a 100-year-old sourdough starter. Harper and Flannery were left the starter by their recently deceased grandmother. So, yes I had to go out and buy a loaf (or 4) of sourdough bread.

8. The Donut Trap by Julie Tieu. Jasmine works in her parent’s donut shop. YUM!!

9. The Strawberry Hearts Diner by Carolyn Brown. Jancy Wilson starts a job at The Strawberry Hearts Diner which specializes in Strawberry Tarts. I did go to the local bakery to get a strawberry tart with my daughter.

10. Well Met by Jen Deluca. I don’t always think about a fried turkey leg, but it sure sounded good when I was reading Well Met!

  1. What a great and fun list, Wendy. I have read 8 of these books and loved the food references. Cozy mysteries are infamous for food references and often have recipes, so yes, I often get hungry or cravings when reading.

  2. I love this list, so fun to read! I definitely find that I like a book better if they have a good description of the food eaten haha.

  3. Love your twist this week! And now I’m hungry. Haha! I’ve only read Well Met, but I agree. All that faire food was calling to me. The Maid is on my tbr. I used to eat my fair share of salad and breadsticks at Olive Garden back in the day, but haven’t eaten there in a long time, either. Great post!

  4. Carolyn Brown does a good job featuring food I want to eat. Love Lemon Meringue pie, but I’ve never made one. Kristan Ashley always makes me hungry, too! I think she co-wrote a cookbook which reminds me I want to buy it.

  5. People will put down Olive Garden saying it’s not a “real” Italian restaurant, but most Chinese takeout isn’t authentic Asian food, and the last time I went… Burger King wasn’t a steakhouse. Ha! If it tastes good who cares. I’m with you let’s visit Olive Garden. I haven’t been there in years. 🍝

  6. It seems like half the books I read this winter had hot chocolate. If I drank hot chocolate and had pastry treats to go with it like the characters did, my scales would break. The other half had coffee which is no temptation for me.

  7. Great topic! So many books make me hungry, lol. Thanks for the warning with The Maid. My book club’s going to read it in a few months. I’ll make sure I’m not hungry when I read it, lol.

  8. If I read a book which mentions baking, I’m off to the kitchen to do my own baking. I remember a book about Bath biscuits, which set me off.

  9. I went to a Renaissance Faire once and had a fried turkey leg; it was kind of yummy! Very fun TTT list this week. 😀

  10. Ash

I love this! Usually it’s movies or even commercials that give me those food cravings, I think the last one to give me an actual craving was probably The Doughnut Fix. And now I want grilled cheese, so thanks for that. Lol
