Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Each week a new theme is suggested for bloggers to participate in. Create your own Top Ten list that fits that topic – putting your unique spin on it if you want. Everyone is welcome to join but please link back to The Artsy Reader Girl in your own Top Ten Tuesday post.
Today’s Top 10: Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love
My favorite side characters are usually pets or animals of some kind. So here are my top 10 books with my favorite animals as side characters.
#1. Too Good To Be True by Kristan Higgins. The little dog, a West Highland terrier is adorable. I have had 2 Westies in my life, and the personality of the dog in the book is so similar to my westies.
#2. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie features Elvis, a grumpy, old, one-eyed cat who loves Elvis music.
#3. The Trouble with Tabbies by A. G. Henley is about a romance writer who rescues cats and lives in a house full of them.
#4. Pug Actually by Matt Dunn is a very cute story and told from the POV of the dog, Doug the Pug. Doug is determined to set up his rescuer, Julie with their neighbor, Tim.
#5. The Problem with Pugs by A. G. Henley also stars a pug named Doug. Except this pug is misbehaved and his human friend Amelia enlists the help of a handsome veterinarian, Travis to help teach Doug some manners.
#6. A Spot of Trouble by Teri Wilson features not one, but two adorable dalmatians. Violet’s dog Sprinkles is the only dalmatian in Turtle Beach. When handsome firefighter Sam moves to town with his very well trained dalmatian, Cinders, the dogs get mixed up and
#7. It’s Raining Men by Julie Hammerle, features a fun, quirky dog named Joanne.
#8. The Twelve Days of Snowball. Snowball is the official kitty of the B&B and as she causes trouble for the new manager, Sophie. In order to make amends for causing trouble, Snowball works to match her to the construction manager Daniel.
#9. Finding Love at Mermaid Terrace by Kate Forster features a tabby cat Ginger Pickles who steals the show in this lovely story.
#10. Falling in Love on Willow Creek by Debbie Mason. This book features happy golden retriever named Finn.

I LOVE that you picked animals! Makes me want to read them all 🙂
Thank you Cheryl. Animals can really help a story.
What a cute interpretation of this prompt. 🥺 I wanna read books that feature side character kitties now…
Thank you Hannah. Cats sure make good secondary characters.
I have only read one of these which was A Spot of Trouble but it was one I didn’t like. The others I have only heard of a couple!
Thank you!
I do love animals that steal the show! Great collection for TTT!
Thank you Rachel!
I love it when a book has animals as great side characters!
Thank you Jolene. I agree, I love animals in books.
I love when pets are included as secondary characters – especially if they are a working animal. Great twist on this Top Ten!
Thank you Jodie! For some reason, I remember animals better than humans! LOL.
What a great twist Wendy. I also love books with animals that play a role. I may use this along with humans when I put mine together later today. I have not read any of these, but have The Twelve Days of Snowball on my TBR. The Pug ones also appeal to me, especially as my daughter has a Jug (jack russell/pug).
Thank you Carla. Cute animals always leave a lasting impression on me.
