What I’m up to:

I had another quiet week and got a lot of reading done again. We had snow yesterday, but it melted by the end of the day.

We’re going to Phoenix tomorrow for a doctor’s appointment, shopping, and warming up. Phoenix is only a 2-hour drive, but it’s 20 – 30 degrees warmer, and I love to visit there in the winter.

I read The Bluebonnet Battle by Carolyn Brown, and in the book, the main character makes Lemon Pies for funerals. She has a “secret ingredient’ she uses in her pies. So, of course, I got a craving for Lemon Meringue Pie and had to make one. I haven’t made a lemon meringue pie in many, many years, and I’m not sure I’ve ever made one completely from scratch.

You’ll have to read the book to find out what the secret ingredient is! (or just ask me!)

Last week I read:

  1. I would love it if the snow melted here in a couple of hours. Last Monday, we received over 4 inches of snow, and it hasn’t melted. And now it’s snowing again. The perks (?!?!) of living in Canada, I guess.

  2. Tee

Oh, I love spending time in Phoenix! We stay there ( or Sedona ) a few days when we head to San Diego to see our son and his family.

  3. I love lemon meringue pie, though I haven’t tried to make one from scratch. I make a lemon cheesecake pavlova every year for Christmas though which is similar.
    Enjoy the warmth of Phoenix

Wishing you a great reading week

  4. I hope you have a good time warming up and that everything goes well with your appointments. Looking at the cover for The Bluebonnet Battle, which is in my queue, I thought back to the couple of years I lived in Austin, TX, which is a big bluebonnet area. That is not what I remembered, so I searched for some images. I’m pretty sure those are bluebells on the cover. I’m surprised someone along the publishing process didn’t catch that!

  5. I haven’t made a lemon meringue pie in years. I never made scratch crust though. I love to see those 5 stars on Susan Mallery’s book, because I have it too. So many people have had snow that don’t normally get it. Do you usually get snow or is this an aberration? Have a wonderful week, Wendy.

    • Thank you Carla, I had never made one totally from scratch either, but I thought I’d give it a try after watching many hours of baking shows!
We live in Arizona, but up in the mountains, so we get snow every year. But we also get a lot of sunshine, so it never lasts more than a few days. Hope you have a great week Carla.

  6. I wish you well in Phoenix tomorrow. It’s been ages since I had a lemon meringue pie. That sounds yummy! I love the cover for Weather Girl! I hope you have a great week and enjoy your reading!

  7. Happy Sunday! It’s so impressive to see the amount of books and posts that you manage to finish and schedule out for a week! I just finished reading a book called New Waves by Kevin Ngyuen. I am hoping to finish up My Own Words by Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Mary Harnett. and Wendy Williams if I have some time today.

    • Thank you Claire! I want to read My Own Words. I admire Ruth Bader Ginsburg very much. And it helps that it’s also written by Wendy Williams, which is my name also. LOL. I read a lot because I’m retired, and this is my main hobby.

  8. We had snow that only last for the day yesterday too. Funny to be basically on opposite coasts and have the same weather. Hope you have a wonderful week and a good and productive day trip tomorrow.

  9. You had such a great week Wendy! I’m listening to Weather Girl now and finishing up reading One Italian Summer which I am loving. Have a great time in Phoenix!

  10. I love that cover for Summer Getaway. Hope that the lemon meringue pie turned out well. I’ve never made one from scratch as I’ve never been able to successfully make meringue.
