Stacking The Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!
I still managed to request a few books this week!
NetGalley:
This just sounded cute!
Synopsis: FROM NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY-BESTSELLING AND INDIE NEXT PICK AUTHOR Sophie Gonzales, for fans of American Royals and Anna K: a girl enters a reality dating competition to get revenge on her cheating, royal-adjacent ex-boyfriend, and ends up falling for another girl on the show—in fact, the girl he cheated on her with, in Never Ever Getting Back Together.
“Wickedly funny [and] searingly sexy.” —Kelly Quindlen, author of She Drives Me Crazy
It’s been two years since Maya dumped her cheating ex-boyfriend Jordy, and she still can’t escape him: his sister married the crown prince of a minor European country, and in the lead up to the wedding he captured hearts globally as the eligible younger brother. So, when Maya receives an invitation to be a contestant on Second Chance Romance, a new reality show in which the now-famous Jordy will re-date his ex-girlfriends in an effort to find “the one that got away,” she isn’t interested…that is, until she realizes she can use this opportunity to exact her revenge. If she can make it to the finale, she can reject Jordy and publicly break his heart. As far as Maya’s concerned, it’s payback with interest: just what a guy like Jordy deserves.
But when she gets to the set, she’s confronted with the one person she hasn’t accounted for: Skye, the beautiful, charismatic girl Jordy cheated on Maya with. How is she supposed to live with this girl for six weeks? Sharing bunkbeds, for crying out loud?
Except, of course, there’s more to Skye than she lets most people see. Skye has her own reasons for being careful with her heart, and might be more willing to take Maya’s side than it initially seems. If they can sustain their reluctant alliance—and keep their unexpected chemistry from interfering—they might just have a chance to take Jordy down.
I love that it’s about four women in their 60s. Not my usual genre, but I thought I’d give it a try.
Synopsis: Older women often feel invisible, but sometimes that’s their secret weapon.
They’ve spent their lives as the deadliest assassins in a clandestine international organization, but now that they’re sixty years old, four women friends can’t just retire – it’s kill or be killed in this action-packed thriller by New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-nominated author Deanna Raybourn.
Billie, Mary Alice, Helen, and Natalie have worked for the Museum, an elite network of assassins, for forty years. Now their talents are considered old-school and no one appreciates what they have to offer in an age that relies more on technology than people skills.
When the foursome is sent on an all-expenses paid vacation to mark their retirement, they are targeted by one of their own. Only the Board, the top-level members of the Museum, can order the termination of field agents, and the women realize they’ve been marked for death.
Now to get out alive they have to turn against their own organization, relying on experience and each other to get the job done, knowing that working together is the secret to their survival. They’re about to teach the Board what it really means to be a woman—and a killer—of a certain age.
I read a previous book by Sophie Sullivan and really liked it. Plus I really liked the blurb on this book.
Synopsis: Hailey Sharp has a one-track mind. Get By the Cup salad shop off the ground. Do literally everything possible to make it a success. Repeat. With a head full of entrepreneurial ideas and a bad ex in her rearview, her one and only focus is living life the way she wants to. No distractions.
Wes Jansen never did understand the fuss about relationships. With a string of lackluster first dates and the pain from his parents’ angry divorce following him around, he’d much rather find someone who he likes, but won’t love. Companionship, not passion, is the name of the game.
When Hailey and Wes find each other in a disastrous meet cute that wasn’t even intended for them, they embarrassingly go their separate ways. But when Wes finds Hailey to apologize for his behavior, they strike a friendship. Because that’s all this can be. Hailey doesn’t want any distractions. Wes doesn’t want to fall in love.
What could possibly go wrong?
Addicted to You is a re-issue of the same book published in 2016. This version has some bonus material. I never read it back when it was first published so I’m looking forward to it.
Synopsis: The TikTok sensation Addicted to You, now in a print edition with special bonus material!
She’s addicted to sex. He’s addicted to booze…the only way out is rock bottom. Fall in love with Lily and Lo in this edgy new adult romance set in a world of lust, fame, swoon-worthy men, and friendships that run deeper than blood in this special edition with bonus materials—in print only!
No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.
Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.
But as they sink beneath the weight of their addictions, they cling harder to their destructive relationship and wonder if a life together, for real, is better than a lie. Strangers and family begin to infiltrate their guarded lives, and with new challenges, they realize they may not just be addicted to alcohol and sex. Their real vice may be each other.
That’s all I have for this week. Have you read any of these books? What’s on your list to read? Comment below!
I love the cover for Killers of a Certain Age. Happy reading! 📚
Killers of a Certain Age looks fun!
I think so too! Thank you, Amber
Ah you got approved for Killers of A Certain Age!! I got denied, but I’m so looking forward to reading that one.
I hope it’s a good one.
Great haul! I missed the Deanna Raybourn and she’s a favorite author! It looks so different from her Veronica Speedwell series but it looks like such fun.
I hope it’s a good one!
Awesome haul. I think I need that Deanna Raybourn book.
It sure looks good, doesn’t it!
The Addicted to You series is still one of my favorite contemporary series ever. I actually picked up the first book from Netgalley back in 2014. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it and it was your favorite. I’m really looking forward to it.
I got the Deanna Raybourn too, and it sounds so good! I’m on the fence about Addicted to You. It seems really angsty and I’m not sure I want to sign up for all the drama.
Yes, Addicted to You sounds like it’s full of a LOT of drama!
All of these sound like fun. I hope you enjoy them when you read them.
Thank you, Jenni!
Deanna Raybourn is an author I’vr been wanting to try.
I’ve never read anything by her either.
Looks like several fun books. I hope you enjoy them all!
Thank you, Cindy!

Thank you, Yvonne
These sound great. Enjoy your reading
Thank you, Janette!
I am most interested in Killers of a Certain Age. I have broken my own rule and requested it. I got tired of Berkley rejections and so usually disregard their ARC’s. I did put the book on a list for post publication reading, however. It does sound good.
Berkley rejects me a LOT, but somehow I’m on a list with a couple of their publicity people and they send me invites to books they’ve previously rejected me for. I don’t know how it happened.
Berkley–rejections and then invites–very strange. I just checked and my request was denied. Shrugs! LOL
Great haul!
Thank you, Kristi!
Great haul! A Guide To Being Just Friends sounds right up my alley, so that’s definitely going on the TBR.
Thank you, Amanda!
Nice haul Wendy. I want to read the Deanna Raybourne book, being of a certain age myself, but was declined. I will wait until it is published to get my hands on it, I guess. Enjoy all your upcoming reads!
I. hope we both enjoy it. It’s a little different than what I’m used to, but I think I’ll like it.
Awesome haul Wendy! I hope you love them all!🤗📚🌞💜
Thank you, Susan.
These all sound like really great reads. I especially like the premise of Killers of a Certain Age. Hope you’ll enjoy them all in the end!
Thank you, Stephanie
