The perfect pick me up romcom for fans of Beth O’Leary, Emily Henry and Ali Hazelwood!

Spice rating: 🌶🌶

Not an expert, not even close, not in any of this. But nobody will try harder than me to make you happy.

Sally is a classic romantic and Harry is a classic cynic, but when a drunken bet leads the new flatmates to (badly) recreate ‘the lift’ from Dirty Dancing, and the video goes viral (#EpicRomcomReenactmentFailure), they both realise there’s potential financial benefit in blundering their way through the romcom lexicon for their suddenly vast social media following.

Now, as Harry and Sally bring major romcom moments to new life – including recreating that classic diner scene – their faking it turns to making...out and suddenly they’re living a real life romcom of their own! But like all the greatest love stories, the road to happily ever after is paved with unexpected challenges for this hero and heroine...

Nobody Puts Romcoms In The Corner by Kathryn Freeman is a delightful romantic comedy that brings to life many iconic romantic comedy scenes.

Story Recap:

Sally is a romantic and she loves to watch romantic comedies.  When she needs a new roommate, her friends recommend, Harry.  Harry doesn’t like romcoms, but, he’s a good sport.  When Harry and Sally have a bit too much to drink, and they decide to re-create the iconic Dirty Dancing movie lift, they are both surprised when the video goes viral.

Harry and Sally can use the extra money that viral videos can produce, so they decide to re-create an iconic rom-com scene every week.  While they spend time together recreating sexy, funny, and romantic scenes, they grow closer together.  But, even in iconic romcoms, life isn’t easy and the path to happily ever after.

My Thoughts:

Like Sally, I also love to watch romcoms and I enjoyed this cute story.  I knew every single scene they were re-enacting, and that made it really fun for me.

Sally is just such an authentic character.  She wears her heart on he sleeve and she’s fun-loving and an optimist.  I wasn’t sure about Harry at first, I didn’t like the way he talked about romcoms with Sally, and he was way too cynical, but once he volunteered to re-enact scenes with Sally, he stole my heart too.

The pacing was a bit off and the middle was too slow for me, but it was worth it to get to the end.

Recommendation:

I highly recommend Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner to anyone who enjoys romance.  I received a complimentary copy of this book.  The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

About Kathryn Freeman

A former pharmacist, I’m now a medical writer who also writes romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a sexy hero.

With a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to buy a card (yes, he does), any romance is all in my head. Then again, his unstinting support of my career change proves love isn't always about hearts and flowers - and heroes come in many disguises.

  1. I’m also a huge romcom fan and look forward to reading this book. I’ll make sure I’m not drinking anything so I don’t spit it out. Wonderful review, Wendy.

  2. This sounds super cute and your pinecones show you enjoyed it so it looks like execution lived up to premise. I’ll definitely have to check this out!

  3. Two people commented on your “acorn” rating. 😂 We need to take them to the forest for a field trip. Acorns are interesting, but pine cones are the best! 😉

  4. I rarely read Rom-Coms and if I do I usually spend way too much time rolling my eyes. Guess I’m a cynic, unfortunately. Sorry I am getting back to you so late. The week got away from me. -Anne@HeadfullofBooks

  5. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one since it sounds really cute! I’m a sucker for any book involving classic romcom references!

I typed too fast — that should have read: but goodness how cute is this blurb!!

    • I sure did! Yikes. I was so busy scheduling posts so I wouldn’t have to on my trip. Ooops. Thanks so much for letting me know
