Mazey Eddings, author of the “witty, fast-paced rom-com”* A Brush with Love, mixes passion and humor to create a luscious love story between two people stumbling through life and learning to open their hearts in Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake.
Lizzie has made endless mistakes. Kitchen fires, pyramid schemes, bangs (of the hair and human variety), you name it, she’s done it... and made a mess of it too. One mistake she’s never made is letting anyone get closer to her than a single hook-up. But after losing yet another bakery job due to her uncontrolled ADHD, she breaks her cardinal rule and has a two-night-stand that changes everything.
Once burned, twice shy, Rake has given up on relationships. And feelings. And any form of intimacy for that matter. Yet something about charming, chaotic Lizzie has him lowering his guard. For two nights, that is. Then it’s back home to Australia and far away from the pesky feelings Lizzie pulls from him. But when Lizzie tells him she’s got an unexpected bun in the oven, he’ll do whatever it takes to be a part of his child’s life... except be emotionally vulnerable, obviously. He’s never going to make that mistake again.
Through a series of mishaps, totally “platonic” single bed sharing, and an underground erotic baking scheme, Lizzie and Rake learn that even the biggest mistakes can have the most beautiful consequences.

Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings is her second book in her Brush With Love series but can be easily read as a stand-alone book. I enjoyed visiting with the previous characters, but you don’t need to read the previous book to enjoy this one.
Lizzy Blake has been making mistakes most of her life. Lizzy has ADHD, and her lack of concentration has caused multiple issues her entire life. Instead of disappointing anyone again, she doesn’t have long-term relationships. Instead, her dating life is just a series of one-night stands. Lizzy is also having trouble with her job at a local bakery due mostly to her unorganized brain.
When Lizzy meets Rake she breaks her rule and has a two-night stand. Thankfully, Rake has to return to Australia, ensuring Lizzy will not be able to get attached and mess up his life too. Rake is an Australian visiting Philadelphia on business. He’s not one for long-term relationships either, but something about Lizzy has him thinking about her more than usual.
When Lizzy turns up pregnant, she contacts Rake to let him know, and she’s surprised by his reaction. He wants to be a part of the baby’s life no matter what. But, they both agree that a relationship between them will be nothing more than co-parents.
Wow, this was a wonderful book. Lizzy has ADHD and her mind is often jumbled. I like the somewhat frenzied writing in parts that seemed to reflect the way Lizzy mind worked. It wasn’t throughout the book, but enough that I got a glimpse into the way her mind operates. I thought the author’s representation of ADHD seemed to be accurate and it gave me such a personal insight into the way ADHD might affect the day-to-day obstacles of life.
Rake is a wonderful hero. He accepts Lizzy for who she is and isn’t that something we all want in life? He was patient and supportive, and his overwhelming need to be a part of the baby’s life is so lovely. Together Lizzy and Rake make such a balanced couple with each of them balancing the other. The book is a bit steamy, especially in the beginning, but the emotion and characters are so wonderful.
I highly recommend Lizzy Blake’s Best Mistake to anyone who enjoys romantic comedies. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I wouldn’t have picked this but you make it sound fascinating. Excellent review Wendy.
Thank you, Anne! I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did
This does sound different to most rom-coms & the ADHD aspect is interesting too, great review
Thank you, Jenny!
Sounds good! The ADHD angle is interesting.
It was interesting. I thought the author did a good job with it.
Ooo I like the sound of this. Adding to my wishlist! Wonderful review Wendy.
It’s super cute, I think you’d like it, Kimberly
I wonder if the author is writing from personal knowledge with ADHD and that’s why it’s a good representation? I’m super curious about this one now. It sounds like something I’d enjoy a lot.
I thought she did a good job. My son has ADHD, and I thought it felt authentic.
This is not the right book for me, but I love the author’s goal to help socially with mental health issues. I know I would like the character Rake.
It’s not for everyone, and it is pretty spicy.
I loved the sound of the description and might have snorted a couple times, lol. Glad you enjoyed it, Wendy – great review!
That’s so funny!!
Amazing review Wendy! This sounds like such a great read. I like that the author represents ADHD in an accurate way. I’m excited to pick this up, especially since it can be enjoyed as a stand alone!
Thank you, it’s easily read as as stand alone.
We like the ADHD representation and that the two balance each other out.
Thank you! It was done so well.
Wonderful review! I loved this one too Wendy and am happy to have recently received the third book in the series, “The Plus One”. I can’t wait to read it!
I’m hoping that I can get The Plus One from NetGalley if it goes there, but I’ll purchase it, If I don’t get it. I really want to read Indra’s story
Great review, Wendy. I have this one to read. I find it interesting that the female character has ADHD, as it is rare in the population, but awareness is so important.
I worked with a young woman who had it, and she managed it pretty good. But, you’re right, it’s pretty rare.
This sounds nice and different Wendy. I think it’s great that it gives insights into ADHD which I haven’t come across in any book I’ve read so far. The romance thread sounds well done too. Lovely review
Thank you, Mallika. My son has ADHD and I thought it was a good representation in this book.
I would like to read this. I haven’t come across many ADHD books that give perfect representation. Great review, Wendy!
This is pretty good. My son has ADHD, and I thought the author did a great job at representation

He was adorable too!
Awesome review Wendy. This sounds so good

Sounds like there’s a nice message in there as well as a lot of fun.
It is, Cathy!
