Nine out of ten dentists agree, Mazey Eddings's rom-com A Brush with Love makes your smile brighter!*

*not scientifically proven

Harper is anxiously awaiting placement into a top oral surgery residency program when she crashes (literally) into Dan. Harper would rather endure a Novocaine-free root canal than face any distractions, even one this adorable. A first-year dental student with a family legacy to contend with, Dan doesn’t have the same passion for pulling teeth that Harper does. Though he finds himself falling for her, he is willing to play by Harper’s rules. So with the greatest of intentions and the poorest of follow-throughs, the two set out to be “just friends.” But as they get to know each other better, Harper fears that trading fillings for feelings may make her lose control and can't risk her carefully ordered life coming undone, no matter how drool-worthy Dan is.

Blood, gore, and extra-long roots? No problem. The idea of falling in love? Torture.

My Review:

A Brush with Love by Mazey Eddings is a lovely romance about dental students, and a slow-burn romance that I won’t soon forget.  These two main characters have a lot of their own issues to resolve and neither are ready for a romance, but, sometimes it’s when you least expect it, you fall in love.

Harper is a dental student who is all about studying hard so she can get into a dental surgery residency.  And Dan is the son of two overachieving dentists who expect him to follow in their footsteps.  When Harper literally bumps into Dan, there is mutual attraction, but Harper doesn’t have time for a relationship so they decide to just be friends.

This was a fascinating look into the lives of dental students and the various pressures they are under.  It’s clear that the author knows what she is talking about, and if you read her bio, she is a dentist, and she shows off her knowledge in the book.  I found the number of details about the life of a dental student fascinating, however, sometimes all the details of their life slowed the book down just a bit.

I enjoyed the romance between Harper and Dan, I felt it was realistic and I enjoyed both these characters.  They both have issues with their parents, in very different ways, and it’s how they reconcile these issues while they fall in love that makes such a great story.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves contemporary romance.  I received a complimentary copy of this book.  The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

  1. I’m glad you enjoyed this one, Wendy. I looked at it, but when I saw it was about dentists, it just didn’t seem like something I would like. Sounds like I was a bit judgmental. Great review.

  2. I’ve never read a book about dental students. I sounds fun. I enjoy slow-burn romances, and it sounds like there is more going on than just the romance, which is a must for me.

  3. I love that tag line about your smile being brighter if you read this book. LOL This sounds like a fun read–I haven’t read any books set in and around dental school. I will definitely have to check this one out!

  4. “Dental” conjures up pain and fear for me. I don’t think I could get past that to read it. Your review is good though.

  5. I can be a little squeamish about reading stories about surgeries and dental stuff. How much detail does this book go into?

If it helps, character talking about doing a root canal or pulling wisdom teeth (or whatever) would be fine with me. I wouldn’t want to read something that went into detail for multiple pages about how much blood the protagonist sopped up or how many stitches they sewed into someone’s mouth, though. Haha.

But this is definitely a unique spin on the romance genre. I think it’s marvellous that the author branched out to discuss the life of a dentist. Good for her. 🙂

    • I believe there were a couple of pages that were a bit graphic near the beginning of the book. I just skimmed them as I am a bit squeamish too.

  6. I think that’s the first time I’ve come across a romance featuring dentists/dental students(from the title, I was expecting something around art) and one which gives readers a peek into their actual lives. That sounds really interesting to me and the romance sounds sweet. Lovely review🙂

  7. I love slow burn romances most of all and this one sounds delightful even though it is about dreaded dentists. Lol. That’s very interesting that the author is a dentist and a writer – I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen that combination before.
