Stacking The Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!
I had a super busy week this week, so only have one book today.
NetGalley:
I like that this has a brainy heroine. And this is by a debut author!
Synopsis: In this smart, swoony, rom-com debut from Jenny L. Howe The Make-Up Test, two college exes find themselves battling against each other—and their unresolved feelings—for a spot in a prestigious literature Ph.D. program.
Allison Avery loves to win. After acing every academic challenge she’s come up against, she’s finally been accepted into her dream Ph.D. program at Claymore University, studying medieval literature under a professor she’s admired for years. Sure, grad school isn’t easy—the classes are intense, her best friend is drifting away, and her students would rather pull all-nighters than discuss The Knight’s Tale—but she’s got this. Until she discovers her ex-boyfriend has also been accepted. Colin Benjamin might be the only person who loves winning more than Allison does, and when they’re both assigned to TA for the same professor, the game is on.
What starts as a personal battle of wits (and lit) turns into all-out war when their professor announces a career-changing research trip opportunity—with one spot to fill. Competing with Colin is as natural as breathing, and after he shattered her heart two years ago, Allison refuses to let him come out on top. But when a family emergency and a late-night road trip—plus a very sexy game of Scrabble—throw them together for a weekend, she starts to wonder if they could be stronger on the same team. And if they fall for each other all over again, Allison will have to choose between a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and what could be a twice-in-a-lifetime love.
In this charmingly bookish debut, The Make-Up Test embraces the truth that people can sometimes change and grow, even when you least expect it.
That’s all I have for this week. Have you read any of these books? What’s on your list to read? Comment below!

Thank you, Kimberly!
This looks cute and I like that the characters are grad students so they’re a little older than the typical student stories.
Yes, I think it should be good!

I love the sound of this book Wendy! My niece is currently doing her PhD in literature ! Thanks for sharing about this . I look forward to your review.
Oh, your niece sounds amazing! Good for her!
This looks like a fun book. I like that the heroine looks like she has a full figure. I like stories with women who aren’t always pencil-thin.
Me too! That’s what appealed to me.
I just added Turn to Me by Becky Wade onto my tbr stack! The Make-Up Test looks fun and romantic. I love second-chance romances and literature studies!
I just looked up, Turn to Me, and it sure looks like a good book. I hope you enjoy it, Jolene.
I only added two this week 🙂
Oh! Good for you, Cindy! It’s so tough for me as there are so many great books that I want to read!
“Yay!” a book about “nerds” (i.e. intellectuals). This sounds like a good one. Enjoy and stay safe!

Wow, only one, but it sounds good. It doesn’t show up for me. I hope you enjoy it, Wendy. I agree with Susan, I hope you are safe.
Thank you, Carla. Yes, we’re all safe, thanks! The fire is very close by, but not too close.
Even though only one book still looks great. Hope things calm down 😊
Thank you, Jenny. It’s better already! 🙂
Wow, you must have been really busy this week Wendy. I’ve been thinking of you all week and praying you aren’t close to the Tunnel Fire. Hopefully they get a handle on it very soon. So scary and people are losing everything! Stay safe and try to relax this weekend!🤗☕🌞📚💜
Thank you, Susan. The Tunnel Fire is just a few miles from my house, so that’s why I’ve been so busy. But, we did not have to evacuate, so we’re very grateful for that. We got rain and some snow on Friday, and that helped and today the winds died down considerably. Thanks for caring!
I’m glad to hear that Wendy! Thank God! I always keep an eye on Arizona weather since my son still lives there in Northern Phoenix. I’m praying for you all that the weather cooperates and they get a handle on that fire!
