Stacking The Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts, and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!
I only got a couple of approvals for NetGalley, and then I received a couple of surprises from Edelweiss!
NetGalley:
I needed one more Christmas book! 🙂
Synopsis: An unputdownable, feel-good Christmas romance about fresh starts, the importance of family and learning how to follow your heart. Perfect for fans of Mary Alice Monroe, Rachel Hanna and Carolyn Brown.
As twinkling lights go up and snowflakes begin to fall, Laurel Hanover and her eight-year-old son are going home to the Cranberry Inn in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Laurel can’t wait to leave New York behind to help her father run the family business, and make snow angels with her son, even if it’s just for Christmas. But when she walks through the door, she’s shocked to find the inn in disrepair, and a letter saying her father will be gone until Christmas Eve….
No one in town knows where Laurel’s father is, and she doesn’t know whether to be worried or angry – but she won’t let the inn go under, and nothing will get in the way of the perfect Christmas for her son. Seeing the worn-out wooden bannisters, bare of festive lights, she immediately recruits her childhood friend, brooding local carpenter Joel Hutcherson. They might disagree on whether any walls actually need to come down, but each rip in the carpet makes Laurel more concerned for her father, and Joel is a welcome distraction. And when he admits that Laurel was his first crush, she realises she’s falling for him.
But then Laurel uncovers a card with beautiful, ornate writing amongst her father’s things and learns the real reason he disappeared. And it changes everything. Worse still, she thinks Joel knew the truth all along.
Laurel thought this was going to be the perfect Christmas – that maybe she had found her happy. But now there’s nothing to stop her from running back to New York the moment the baubles come down… is there?
Such a cute cover. I love stories about sisters (I have two!) and especially when they are behaving badly.
Synopsis: Sisters Kitty and Jenny haven’t spoken since a very disappointing Carvery lunch. Kitty, sixty-two, thinks Jenny is turning grey. Jenny, sixty-six, thinks Kitty needs to grow up!
So when both sisters inherit a farmhouse in rural France, it gives them the perfect chance to heal the rift between them. Except the farmhouse is a wreck, the garden is terrorized by a flock of chickens, not to mention a donkey with a serious flatulence problem!
Kitty is determined to enjoy herself, especially when she meets gorgeous French builder, Leo. Ooh la – la! And Jenny finds the fully stocked wine cellar helps enormously with missing horrible husband Paul – hic!
And as the two sisters begin to repair their fragile friendship, they discover that being bad is actually very good for the soul.
Edelweiss:
I RARELY get approvals from Edelweiss, but this week I got 2!
This book involves a treasure hunt!
Synopsis: The best kept secrets are waiting to be found. A glorious read that will transport you to summer, with a delightful cast of characters from UK bestselling author Jenny Oliver.
With an air of faded splendor, Willoughby Hall was an idyllic childhood home to Ruben de Lacy. Gazing at it now, decades later, the memories are flooding back, and not all of them are welcome….
In a tumbledown cottage in Willoughby’s grounds, Dolly and Olive King lived with their eccentric explorer father. One of the last things he did was to lay a treasure hunt before he died, but when events took an unexpected turn, Dolly and Olive left Willoughby for good, never to complete it.
But when Ruben uncovers a secret message, hidden for decades, he knows he needs Olive and Dolly’s help. Can the three of them solve the treasure hunt, and will piecing together the clues help them understand what happened to their families that summer, all those years ago?
A glorious read with a delightful cast of characters that will transport you to summer!!
I’ve been wanting to read more cozy mysteries, and Murder On the Menu is a new series.
Synopsis: The first book in a NEW cozy mystery series!
Still spinning from the hustle and bustle of city life, Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker is glad to be back in the Cornish village she calls home. Having quit the Met Police in search of something less dangerous, the change of pace means she can finally start her dream catering company and raise her daughter, Daisy, somewhere safer.
But there’s nothing like having your first job back at home to be catering an ex-boyfriend’s wedding to remind you of just how small your village is. And when the bride, Cheryl, vanishes Jodie is drawn into the investigation, realizing that life in the countryside might not be as quaint as she remembers….
With a missing bride on their hands, there is murder and mayhem around every corner but surely saving the day will be a piece of cake for this not-so-amateur sleuth?
The first book in the Murder on the Menu cozy mystery series. Can be read as a standalone. A humorous cozy mystery with a British female sleuth in a small village. Includes one of Jodie’s Tried and Tested Recipes! Written in British English. Mild profanity and peril.
Blog Tour:
This looks interesting and it’s about books!
Synopsis: She’s just a girl, standing in front of a bookcase, looking for her happily every after…
Charlotte’s love of romantic literature and ‘happily ever after’ is a far cry from reality. Putting her own ambitions to one side and settling with her university sweetheart, it has not been a decade of bliss. Changes need to be made, and quick.
At a book signing for her favourite author, she meets the handsome and chivalrous Ross. He immediately charms her and wants to see her again. Could this be the romantic, happy ending she was looking for?
Debbie brings us her latest romantic comedy where dating and new romances warm our hearts… and give us a little bit of dating fear.
Audiobook:
I finished Shadow and Bone, and Siege and Storm and LOVED them both, and Ruin and Rising is the final book in the series.
Synopsis: The capital has fallen. The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne.
Now the nation’s fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army.
Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint. Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives.
Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields. The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction – and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for. Ruin and Rising is the thrilling final installment in Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha Trilogy.
I finished listening to the Shadow and Bone Trilogy, so now it’s time to start the Six of Crows Duology.
Synopsis: Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price – and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone.
A convict with a thirst for revenge. A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager. A runaway with a privileged past. A spy known as the Wraith. A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes. Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction – if they don’t kill each other first.
That’s all I have for this week. Have you read any of these books? What’s on your list to read? Comment below!
I really love the sound of The Cranberry Inn and yeah, I love sister stories, too. I have two, and I’m very close to one. My other sister is two years younger than my daughter (dad remarried after my mom died) so she’s more like a niece. It’s always fun when sisters get to behave badly together, of course, lol!
Thank you Rachel. It’s so nice to have sisters.
I love the cover for One Lucky Summer! I hope you enjoy these.
Thank you Joanna!
I think you will enjoy Murder on the Menu. I really like Fiona Leitch’s writing. And I have The Cranberry Inn too. Can’t wait to read it ❤️
Oh, I’m so glad you recommend Fiona Leitch! And just finished The Cranberry Inn and enjoyed it.
These books all sound great Wendy! I looks forward to reading your reviews! Happy Reading!
Thank you Jodie!
These look fun! I love the idea of a treasure hunt 🙂
Thank you Greg!
Edelweiss is just so confusing to me I basically gave up on it.
It is Bonnie, and I rarely get approvals, but it’s a challenge, so I keep requesting just to see what will happen!
I have not read any of these. I am trying not to add any more books for the remainder of this year. I have got to get caught up. I did get approved for 3 more blog tours this week (or last week)…and I think I still have a few outstanding requests to Net Galley. But, my goal is no more books 😉
And, apparently I had two outstanding blog tour requests because I typed that (above) and immediately opened my email to find two approvals for November (face palm!!!). Send help…
I feel your pain Cindy. Too many books, too little time! Best of luck with the blog tours!
Stories about sisters can be so much fun!
Thank you Lectrice, I hope it’s good!
I love books about books too so One Book Away sounds fun. Enjoy Six of Crows. I loved it.
Thank you. I’m enjoying Six of Crows so far!
I hope you love them all! I need to find some Christmas books. I don’t have any on my shelf right now.
