What if your roommate is your soul mate? A joyful, quirky romantic comedy, Beth O'Leary's The Flatshare is a feel-good novel about finding love in the most unexpected of ways.
Tiffy and Leon share an apartment. Tiffy and Leon have never met.
After a bad breakup, Tiffy Moore needs a place to live. Fast. And cheap. But the apartments in her budget have her wondering if astonishingly colored mold on the walls counts as art.
Desperation makes her open minded, so she answers an ad for a flatshare. Leon, a night shift worker, will take the apartment during the day, and Tiffy can have it nights and weekends. Heâll only ever be there when sheâs at the office. In fact, theyâll never even have to meet.
Tiffy and Leon start writing each other notes â first about what day is garbage day, and politely establishing what leftovers are up for grabs, and the evergreen question of whether the toilet seat should stay up or down. Even though they are opposites, they soon become friends. And then maybe more.
But falling in love with your roommate is probably a terrible idea...especially if you've never met.
The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary is a delightful stand-alone romantic comedy with some hysterical moments in a very heartwarming story.
Tiffany Moore needs a flat in London, but canât afford much. Leon Twomey has a flat but needs cash. Leon decided to advertise a flatshare. Since Leon works nights, and Tiffany works days, they make an agreement to share the flat. They have rules so that they will never see each other, not even in passing.
Thatâs what the rules say. But, can these two people share the same bed, the same flat without wondering about the other person?
Wow, I just loved this story. Itâs the perfect amount of romance, character growth, humor, and witty banter. These characters are realistic and well-developed. I was rooting for them to get together from the very beginning. I loved how they communicated and grew to like each other through the post it notes. Their cute notes gave them each an inkling into the otherâs character and that was fun to read about.
I also enjoyed the unique premise of this story and the way the author made this unique premise sound very realistic. I enjoy urban settings, and London is aways a wonderful setting for me. The Flatshare has that perfect balance of emotional turmoil and wonderful humor. The way Tiffany and Leon interact is very special, and itâs obvious they are meant to be together, but they both have a lot of emotional baggage, and that is what makes this story so wonderful.
Carrie Hope Fletcher and Kwaku Fortune do a wonderful job of narrating this book. Each chapter has alternating POVâs and each narrator was excellent at narrating their characters. Their voices were soothing and represented each character fully. Â
